MRCP Part 2 is the second level of your target of achieving the most prestigious MRCP diploma. Continuing the process of testing your knowledge assessed in MRCP Part 1, your clinical knowledge and decision-making ability will be tested once more in Part 2. However, this time, you should be prepared for more intricate questions. The syllabus of the Part 2 examination is developed on the basis of “the UK Specialty Training Curriculum for Core Medical Training / Curriculum for Internal Medicine.” It’s feasible to go through this curriculum a few times while you start preparing for this second-level examination.

  4. Gastroenterology
  5. Geriatric medicines

  9. Nephrology
  10. Oncology and Palliative medicines

  13. Respiratory medicine
  14. Rheumatology
  15. Therapeutics and Toxicology

Questions are mostly given on diagnosis, investigation, decisions regarding treatment, immediate and long-term treatment management, and prognosis of a patient.

MRCP Part 2 exam pattern

The exam pattern for mrcp part 2 has been planned as follows:
Part 2 exam consists of two papers of 100 marks each.
Each exam paper consists of 100 multiple choice questions (MCQs).
The exam is taken in the pre-fixed examination centres only.
Each paper is 3 hours in duration and both papers are taken on the same day in two sessions.

Purpose of MRCP Part 2 examination

Understanding the purpose of the mrcp part 2 examination will help you prepare for the examination accordingly. The exam is all about your clinical understanding of the assessment of physical and psychological issues of a patient, ability to make quick decisions on treatment procedure, and ability to accept the responsibility of the patient as far as his or her treatment procedure and management is concerned. Part 2 exam will test how you prioritise physical and psychological issues and create the problem lists for a patient.
Part 2 exam will assess how you are planning for the next level of investigation to fix the problem your patient is experiencing.
Part 2 exam will test how capable you are to opt for immediate and long-term management of the treatment procedure and patient care.
Part 2 exam will also scrutinise your ability in assessing the prognosis of a disease.

Important aspects of both papers:

Each question contains 5 closely resembled options but only one option is the correct answer.
Both papers contain several image-based questions that include pathology slides, clinical photographs, ECGs, Echocardiograms, X-Rays, CT Scans, and MR Scans.
